The March issue of MORE magazine featured an article about the increasing number of women who are choosing to stay single for all or most of their lives. The article cites a statistic that:
“At 27 million, the number of single women in America over 45 (including never-marrieds, widows, and divorcees) has never been higher. And the percentage of these women who’ve never been married is increasing as well. A 2008 census update found that 11 percent of women between the ages of 45 and 54 have never been married, a two percent rise since 2005.”
For women who choose to stay single, financial savvy is a necessity. And for many, financial self-sufficiency is what allows them the luxury of not having to find a partner to depend on. As the MORE article states:
“Ironically, one of the primary factors that has made it easier for women to remain single – our economic independence – may also make us less skittish about taking a trip down the aisle. We know we have the security to walk away.”
It is clear that it is becoming increasingly important that women understand money and live their life with a financial plan in mind. Rich Woman is here to support financial literacy so that all women, no matter their marital status, have a fulfilling life.
